Martyn Prowel Solicitors obtained compensation for our client who suffered a serious and permanent injury to his hand as a result of an accident at work.
Background
Our client was employed by the Defendant as a refractory installer. He was at work on the Defendant’s premises removing concrete from a rotating mixing bowl with a screwdriver.
He was wearing protective gloves at the time.
The screwdriver got caught in the machine and his hand was pulled into the machine. As a result of the accident he suffered amputation to three fingers to his dominant right hand just below the knuckle. He underwent two operations over a three year period but was left with permanent symptoms of pain, reduced grip function and cold intolerance.
Our client was off work for a lengthy period following the accident. As a result of his injuries he was forced to find alternative employment in a different sector.
What We Did
We first established liability against our client’s employers. We then arranged for our client to receive money to enable him to pay privately for the second operation to his hand to help alleviate the pain from which he was suffering.
We then identified and instructed appropriate medical experts to provide the necessary evidence in relation to our client’s injuries.
It was alleged that our client was in some way to blame for the accident. We successfully defended this allegation and obtained damages for our client to receive a lump sum settlement of £100,000 allowing him to consider purchasing his own property and to provide a secure future for himself. It also enabled our client to obtain funding for prosthetic fingers which although would not be functioning would make a vast difference to our client cosmetically.
