Whether your preferred two wheeled transport is a Harley Davidson, Vespa or a Carrera, you will all be too familiar of the common enemy – the inattentive or distracted driver.
We all agree that the exhilaration of riding on the open road, the camaraderie of taking part in a Scooter rally, or even the convenience of cycling to work can outweigh the potential risks involved in pursuing your chosen mode of transport.
However, did you know that, according to the Think Bike! Campaign (http://think.direct.gov.uk/index.html), motorcyclists are roughly 38 times more likely to be killed in a road traffic accident than car occupants. 38! In fact, the campaign states that 30 motorcyclists are killed or injured every day at junctions.
And Beyond The Kerb (https://beyondthekerb.org.uk/) reports that in 2016, a total of 125 cyclists were killed in Road Traffic Collisions.
We think you’ll agree that these are very frightening statistics!
It goes without saying that should the worst occur for yourself or a loved one, then we will be here for you. We don’t need to tell you that we’re specialists in dealing with this sort of claim, that we have years of experience in settling serious, life changing injury and fatal claims for the maximum damages achievable, nor that we can arrange funding for essential private medical treatment. No. The point of this article is to help you to take every possible step to avoid any accident occurring, so that you won’t need us!
Whilst some of the tragic statistics above result from human error, we can only sadly assume that some lives could have been saved by following safety advice.
Please take a moment to have a look at the links below to the Think Bike! campaign for both motor cycling and cycling, both of which contain links to the Highway Code and safety tips for cyclists, scooterists and motorcyclists.
Please, with Summer upon us, and the lure of the road being even more tempting, take some time to ensure that your bike is in good working and safe condition, your clothing is appropriate and that you are visible to drivers and other road users.
Whilst we are here for you should you need us, we would prefer you to have a successful, safe and enjoyable adventure and so, no offence, but we’d rather not hear from you! Stay Safe – and make it home to your families.
