With the holiday season upon us we thought it may be wise to remind holidaymakers that you don’t have to put up with food poisoning. Making a food poisoning claim won’t turn a bad experience in to the perfect getaway, but it can start to set things right after your ruined holiday.
A while back we wrote an article about British holidaymakers in Egypt who made a claim with us after they suffered from food poisoning at the Jaz Mirabel Hotel in Sharm El Sheik. Within 3 days of arriving at the resort our clients became ill from food poisoning with sickness and diarrhoea which lasted until they returned to the UK.
Food poisoning on holiday can more often than not bind you to your hotel room, meaning you can’t enjoy much of what you went away for! When this happens on a packaged holiday you have a right to claim against the company organising the holiday. In the case of our clients holidaying in Egypt they were able to claim compensation of £1,500 each, and received payment of their costs.
Janine Griffiths from Martyn Prowel had this to say about food poisoning on holiday:
“We were pleased to be able to recover compensation for these clients as a result of the food poisoning they sustained at the Jaz Mirabel Hotel in Sharm El Sheik. Clearly this was meant to be a special holiday which was blighted by illness. Tour Operators owe a duty of care to their customers to ensure that Hotels are of reasonable standard and that proper care is taken. On this occasion, the Tour Operator had failed in that duty, and as a result, our clients sustained injury.”
