It is quite common nowadays in employment situations for employers to agree with employees voluntary redundancy terms or the terms upon which an employee will leave the employment on agreed terms as to a lump sum payment and other terms. Such agreements are often called “Compromise Agreements” and very often include a confidentiality clause. These Agreements are not usually legally effective unless the employee has received independent advice from a solicitor as to the terms and conditions contained within the written Compromise Agreement. We can advise you about these Agreements, their terms and effect. If your employer proposes that you sign such an Agreement give us a ring to arrange an appointment for us to advise you. The Agreements usually contain terms as to payment of some or all of your legal fees in obtaining advice so that it is often the case that there is little or no cost to you in seeing us.
